Come Hell or High Water

Last weekend, Bryce and I decided we needed to go sledding. It had been snowing, and we thought it would be a fun family outing.

Right.

First on the list - go buy a sled. It's January - shouldn't be hard, right? Apparently not. I guess January is the time stores stock swimming suits, not sleds. We had to go to 3 different stores just to find one. Same thing with toddler boots. We finally ended up buying some galoshes that were way too big. By this time, Cole is sick of being in the car, as are we.

By sheer force of will, we start driving up by Suncrest to find a hill with enough snow. Cole expresses his excitement by falling asleep. We get him up and put all his snow stuff on, which he does not appreciate. We had to hike across this gigantic field just to get to the hill.

Halfway there, we realize one of his boots has fallen off. (See that little dot in the middle of the white?)
At this point, we grit our teeth, make our way to the hill, and ride the crap out of that thing. Once. Look how much fun we're having!Lesson learned? You betcha.

So Cranky

Is it just me, or has everyone been SUPER cranky the last week or so? (Sadly, this includes me.) People at work seem just a little less enthused, drivers seem a little more "what the hell" than usual, and Facebook statuses have never been so depressing. Is it the gloomy weather? Post-holiday sadness? The bleak knowledge that Spring is still a good 2 months off with nothing but the "overwhelming excitement" of President's Day to get us through?

Well, whatever the case may be, all I have to do is look at this picture of Cole wearing his socks on his ears (at his insistence) to make me smile. Hang in there, everyone, we can make it!

Boy on the Move!

Cole has been pulling himself up on everything and cruising along couches, chairs, etc. for months now. He simply refused to let go of whatever he was holding on to, and Bryce and I were getting a little frustrated. We knew he could do it, he just had to decide he could.

Yesterday, he decided he could. Most of me is very excited for his progress while the other, more worried part, envisions crashes into walls and furniture.

We're very proud of him - great job, Cole!

Yelle's Yell - Winter Fun

Last weekend, we took a trip to The Living Planet aquarium. Cole had two basic reactions:
1)Open-mouthed wonder:2)Point, point, point.
We had a great time and it was nice to get out of the house. I'd like to do more of that, but am kind of clueless as to what's around. So my question is, do you guys have things that you really like to do in the winter?

Happy 2010!

We hope you all had a wonderful 2009, and wish you an even better 2010. (The sun is shining, so that's already an improvement!) I've decided this year will be all about simplicity, so my New Year's resolutions reflect that. This year, I will:

Aim for a healthier lifestyle.
Be kinder.
Let go of the drama.
Take more vacation days.
Make lots of cakes...

...which starts now with my New Year's cake. Can I count that as one resolution kept?
