New Family Pics

Now that we've given out our new family pictures with some Christmas gifts, I can post them! We had them taken back in November and were lucky enough to hit the autumn colors. My amazingly awesome cousin Jenn had just had her adorable baby boy, and was out of commission for pictures. We went with Mary Clark (www.photographybydmc.com), and were happy with the results.

Breakin' in the snow gear...It's certainly fun to walk in.Huh. Can we go back in now?

Merry Christmas!

The last couple of days have been so much fun. Our little family had a great Christmas, and we were able to spend time with family, which we love.

On Christmas Eve, we were off to the Thomsens. We had a delicious lunch, and got to open presents. Cole loved his new sit and spin:We all gave Grandma & Grandpa Thomsen a personalized temple rendering, which really did turn out lovely.
After arriving home and giving Cole a much-needed nap, Grandma Nancy and Grandpa Randy arrived. They gave Cole the most adorable rocking horse for Christmas. He was brave enough to actually pet it, which meant that he really liked it. :)
Halfway through the night, he decided he needed to wear his reindeer antlers.
Christmas morning was wonderful. I was up before everyone else and got to enjoy the Christmas tree and gifts before destruction commenced.Bryce's big gifts were camping gear - a stove and a dutch oven. We can't wait to use them!I received that which I love most - gift cards to go shopping and gummy bears!Cole loved his new toys and clothes. He really caught on to this whole present thing, and every time we turned around he was opening one of either Bryce or my gifts. We got cleaned up and headed over to Grandma Nancy and Grandpa Randy's house. We had delicious souffle and biscuits with Great-Grandma Barber and Aunt Carol. We opened gifts, and then it was time for a well-earned nap.

This year was a little different from previous years. My Grandma Allen has had some health problems and was just out of the hospital. Usually, we go over to her house for traditional Yugoslavian food, but she was just not well enough this year. My dad made the food and took it to them, and we stayed at my parents to eat. We're hoping she can get feeling better soon!

I just wanted to express my love and thanks for all of our family and friends this holiday season. As hectic as this Christmas was, complete with colds, flu, and a teething child, it was as lovely as can be imagined, and that is all due to the people in our lives. We love you and hope you all had a very Merry Christmas!!!

Christmas Thus Far

Christmas is my very favorite holiday, and the thing I love about it the most is how many fun things there are to do. This Christmas has been fantastic so far, with lots of good stuff going on!

On December 5th, our Book Club met to "discuss" our last book. (Basically an excuse to get together and have fun!) Tom and Stacey brought Grey, who is just adorable, and he and Cole had fun playing. I love that we still get together, and I enjoy branching out to different books than I would normally read. That night, we also went to the Kelly's Annual Christmas Party. The live just kitty-corner from us, and have an awesome neighborhood party every year. I don't know how they fit all the people they do in their house, but they have delicious food and a crazy good gift exchange. I'm so glad they're willing to host!

On December 12th, Shan and Lance hosted their Christmas Party. My mom and dad took Cole for a much-appreciated sleep-over (thanks, guys!), and we had a fantastic time. Shan and Lance know how to throw a party! The best moment? Bryce and I won a prize for the best white elephant gift - a 365 day calendar entitled, "What Your Poo's Telling You." (On sale at your local retailer.)

On December 13th, the Thomsen's came over to make gingerbread houses.Cole enjoyed making his first house:Mitchell was so cute with Cole, following him around to make sure his shopping cart didn't get caught on anything and that he was doing okay.Cole's day care had Santa come over - surprisingly, Cole was not a fan. They also gave each child their own stocking - complete with reindeer antlers! On December 18th, Bryce, Cole and I went down to see the lights at Thanksgiving Point.

Bryce - agape with wonder.Cole seemed to enjoy them.Mom - not so much. Paying $8 to basically sit in traffic? Probably not next year.I thought Cole would like the reindeer. Meh.The best part of the night? Gingerbread Cake!On December 19th, it was GNO - Christmas Edition! We ate at Cucina Toscana (DELICIOUS!), and enjoyed a fire at Kelly's Historical House of Wonder.
And finally, the 20th found us at Grandma Nancy's for the Barber Christmas Party. It's a mad house, but so much fun! Cole missed his nap, so I thought he'd be cranky. Nope - just very loopy - which was enjoyable for everyone. He loved being a shepherd in the nativity, and sang along with all the songs. He enjoyed meeting his cousin Tyler, as this picture clearly demonstrates:
He loved opening...and riding...his gifts from the Dixons. And we all loved spending time with family. Yay Christmas!!!

Buddies

Before I begin, let me apologize for all the "My Cute Child Did This" posts. (Although, seriously, did you see what my cute child did?) I guess I figure that since I don't journal, I've got to get these little gems down while I remember them.

Anyway, Cole has an adorable best friend at University Kids named Isak. They get so excited to see each other every morning, and sit and play all day. Yesterday, I had to pick Cole up from day care, and when I arrived, they were still eating lunch at the little table and chairs. Cole was sitting next to Isak, and had almost eaten his whole plate of potatoes and sandwich. As I walk in, I say "hi" to all the kids, including Isak, who grins at me and starts talking away. You think my little boy would be excited to see me?

Nope. He swings a look to make sure Isak is occupied, and then reaches out, takes pretty much the rest of what's on Isak's plate, and stuffs it into his mouth.

Apparently, when it comes to food, all friendship bets are off.

New Favorite Spot

We've got a kitchen full of cabinets with Tupperware, tablecloths, and all kinds of plastic fun. Cole has a room with plenty of toys in it. He's even got his own little cabinet with the best toys in it. But what have I caught him emptying over and over the past two days? Yep, the stuff under my sink in our bathroom. Lotions, hair styling products - you name it - he loves it. I keep walking in to find him surrounded by the stuff. Tonight, he even selected his favorites and put them in his shopping cart, which he then pushed around the house...all night.

Go figure.

I Hate Pink Eye

Cole has pink eye in both eyes and a cold.

Looks like Christmas has come early!

When Things Don't Quite Go Right

I really love Christmas, and was determined to do some fun things this year. So, when we got a coupon for a hay ride at Wheeler Farm's Festival of Lights, I thought it would be perfect. We picked Friday night because every other weekend until Christmas is busy. (Only 3 weeks - how did THAT happen?!) We arrived to find absolutely no one there and all of the food vendors, etc. still setting up. We bundled up and starting wandering around, but were very disappointed. I'm sorry, but there was no "Festival" in their lights, and if you advertise something opening at 6:00, it should be ready at 6:00.

Anyway, after awkwardly walking around in the freezing cold for fifteen minutes, we threw in the towel. Obviously nothing bad happened, but it wasn't the fun hay-ride-meeting-Santa festival I anticipated. If anybody does something fun, or knows of a good event, please let me know! (Preferably somewhere warm.) If you're considering going, you may want to wait until 7:00 or 8:00 for when the party gets going.

Oh well, here are the pictures I forced Bryce and Cole to take - I love how Cole is clearly not impressed.
