Kelly's Historical House

My friend Kelly and her husband Jeremy just bought an awesome house in Layton. The home was built in 1913, and has so much character. Kelly and Jeremy have mad fix-it skills, and have always wanted to buy an older home and remodel. We had girls night there this weekend, and I just had to share how cool this historical house is.
Which one shall I use?
Original tile and wood fireplace - so beautiful.
Kind of creepy stairs to the basement. They should keep the zombies out, right?
In fact, both sets of stairs are more like...ladders. So steep!
The puppies absolutely love the horse pastures - they even have a chicken coop and horse stable!
It really is amazing how cool old houses are. It's really trite to say, but they just don't make them like that anymore. Thanks for sharing your historical house, Kelly and Jeremy!

Evil Food Mistress(es)

I finally have the pictures and the occassion to give a shout-out to the awesome people I work with. Over the past couple of weeks, we've gone out to celebrate new jobs and retirement, and have been able to have delicious food. Thanks for making work a good time and for being (yet another) evil food mistress for me. (Thanks also to Cameron for the pics!) The whole group at Cannella's. We're starting Cole off young.

Cameron and the simply adorable Barb. Yes, she is standing on a bench.

Bromance.

Bucca di Beppi. Bappo. Bumpu. Whatever.

Waiter, "Who ordered the Raspberry Lemon-Drop Martini?"
Derek, "ME! Who else would order that drink?!"

So delicious.

I Shouldn't Compain, but...

I'm super proud of Cole, and I'm glad he's growing so well, but I'm getting a tad nervous. Exasperated with all the holes he's worn in the toes of his pj's, I bought 18 month jammies at Costco thinking he'd have a few good months with them.

Nope. They fit my 8-month-old son perfectly.

Break From the Rain

Over the weekend, we had our annual Bear Lake trip with the Thomsens. Sadly, Cole was a bit under the weather with the remnants of a tummy bug and a new tooth, so was a little crabby (what an understatement). Browse the pictures below for the highlights, and stay through the end when I get snarky about our "beach companions."

For the love, it's only a 2-day trip. So much crap for such a little guy.
We made the drive uneventfully, and spent some quality time on the beach.
My favorite highlights of the beach? 1 - When Cole took a long-awaited nap:
2-When Leslie had to run out and pull Brock's swim trunks up. Apparently, he took it literally when he overheard her tell the girls to go potty in the lake. Next thing we know, the lake has become his urinal. (You'll have to look close, it's an "action" shot.)
3-Watching Bryce try to figure out how to fold the little shade tent back into the package.
We also had some good times back at the condo - the kids watched cartoons and played, the homemade root beer bubbled, and the guys got way into bbq'ing.
And I was even able to get a good landscape shot in:Congratulations if you made it this far! Now, excuse me while I address the weirdness of the people around us at the beach.

Dear Fellow Beach-goers;

Proper etiquette must be followed when sharing fairly close space at a public beach.

1) Do not wade through our sand-castle area in your wet suits and lame tattoos. There's plenty of space behind our stuff or out deeper.
2) Do not gather around a self-made mud pit and sing broadway tunes at the top of your lungs. Yes, we get that you are in Drama and therefore very important, but it weirds us out.3) And finally, do not take a metal detector through our belongings. Please allow a fifty-foot "buffer zone" at all times.

Thank you,
Management

Happy Father's Day

"Fatherhood is pretending the present you love best is
soap-on-a-rope."
~Bill Cosby

I just wanted to say a happy first Father's Day to Bryce. Bryce truly is a wonderful dad who would do anything for his little guy. Cole absolutely loves his dad and gets so excited when he walks into a room. Bryce has the patience of a saint, and will help in any way he can, whether it's changing diapers, doing laundry, making bottles, or giving baths.
Happy Father's Day - we love you!

Lesson Learned

Take one lovely Friday night.
Add delicious s'more ingredients,
And a husband willing to indulge his wife's whims,
And you've got....
Wait.
Add in one vengeful Mother Nature determined to ruin the first rain-free night in a week,
And now you've got....
Indoor S'mores.
You've won this round, Mother Nature.

So Many Firsts

First Haircut
First Tooth (it's there, on the bottom, in the middle - I promise!)
First Attempt to Crawl (while wearing a bib like a cape)
First Baby Einstein Video
First Feel of Grass (with just a hint of spit-up)
First Time Sitting Like a Big Boy in the Stroller (plus, I just love the hat)
We can't wait to see how all of the other "firsts" go!
