Love Those Birthdays!

Since Isak's birthday is the same week as Cole's, we decided to have a joint little party for them. They had a great time blowing out candles and exchanging gifts. (Cole did through a bit of a tantrum when Isak wouldn't watch the Mater Movie. I think his love of that movie borders on obsession.)We also followed our fall tradition of going to Silver Lake. We tried last week, and after 20 minutes of shoving strollers through the snow, gave up. Luckily, this week we had much better luck.

Happy Birthday

I cannot believe that Cole is 3 years old! We love him so much and are very proud of him. Cole is doing great in school; is counting from 1-20 and learning his letters. He loves anything that has to do with trains and cars, and doesn't go anywhere without his cat, Gummy. According to Cole, here are his favorite things:

I love to: Play with my Lightning McQueen cars and make them go "Kachow!"
Favorite movie: The Mater Movie (um, yah. He invites perfect strangers to our house to watch it.)

Wedding Cake

Saturday, Ashley and Pierre were married. (Yes, he's French. And yes, I'm a teeny bit jealous.) I was lucky enough to do their cake, and it was so fun! Everything went well, and a big thanks goes to Bryce for watching the boys while I worked.

The No Good Day

On Sunday, Cole woke up and said he couldn't walk - that his knee hurt. He insisted on being carried around. I thought it could be growing pains, or a pulled muscle and that if we ignored it, he would relent. He did not. All day, he either sat or crawled around on all fours. Even his cousins coming over to play did not motivate him to walk.

This morning, he would still not walk. Jack had an eye appointment at 8:00, and I was starting my new job, so I figured we'd try to take him to school and call the doctor later in the morning.

Our day care would not let him stay.

My saintly husband carted both he and Jack to the doctor's all morning long. After blood work and x-rays, the verdict came in - his leg was fractured. I have no idea how or when this happened. And can you imagine my dismay when I recalled trying to make him walk?

The other saintly man in my life - my dad - came to the rescue. He took Cole home, and then back to the doctor's office to get a full-leg splint. He then drove up to the U to pick me up from work. My mom arrived just in time to help with the boys while I ran to the store for gym pants.

Cole will get a walking cast on Wednesday, and then he can go back to school.

On the positive side, my first day of work went well, and Jack passed his eye test with flying colors. Things could always be worse.

On the other hand...seriously? Sigh.

Blue Steel

On Tuesday, Cole and I got the chance to be in a little fashion show at the U. I was not very sure how Cole would do, but he totally stole the show and did a fantastic job. He was a little nervous until we got to the end of the runway and saw Bryce, and then he was very happy. He even gave us a "Go Utes." All of the audience was at the very end of the stage, so it was nice not to have people completely surrounding us. Zoolander, watch out!

Checking In

Judging from other blogs, everyone is super busy right now. It seems like fall arrives, and life speeds up a bit. I can't complain - fall is my favorite time of year, and it's fun to be busy. :)

Bryce is working hard - his current project (Twisted Metal) - is due to be finished by the end of the year. He's also doing a little bit of contract work on the side, so he spends a lot of time programming. He loves to play with the boys, and is such a good dad. He's also growing a beard. I'm warming up to it...let's just leave it at that.Cole is having so much fun at school and will turn 3 in just a couple of weeks. He loves to put together puzzles and play with anything car or train related. He also loves to invite everyone (and I mean everyone) to our house to watch "The Mater Movie." He's now completely potty trained, although we did catch him peeing in the street and waving enthusiastically to our neighbors as they drove by.Jack continues to grow so well, and we are happy with his progress. Now that we have his acid reflux medicine adjusted, he is such a happy little guy. He loves to lay on the floor and kick, and he is able to roll from his tummy to his back. He does not like his car seat one bit, which makes the drive to and from downtown every day very interesting. He is doing well at school, and has his teacher, Miss Yolanda, wrapped around his finger. She calls him "Prince Jack."As for me, after almost five years at the Bookstore, I am moving on to another position. I will be working for U of U Campus HR, and will be the University's Employee Relations Specialist. I'll be handling disciplinary actions as well as service awards and Employee Appreciation Day. I'm the only ER Specialist for the University, so I'm guessing it will keep me busy. I'm also looking forward to doing my cousin Ashley's wedding cake in October.
